Email Exporter for Gmail is a Chrome extension made by Lieder Digital, LLC. It saves the Gmail conversations you choose as PDF or Markdown files on your computer. This policy explains what the extension handles and what happens to it.
Information the extension handles
Everything below is read inside your browser, and only on mail.google.com:
- When Gmail loads: one internal Gmail value, the account key Gmail uses in its own print links. The extension keeps it on the Gmail page so it can open the right print view later.
- When you open its popup in Gmail: which conversations you checked (or which one you have open), with their Gmail IDs, subjects and dates, so the popup can list them. It also shows the email address of the Gmail account you’re in.
- When you click Export: the contents of those conversations, from Gmail’s own print view. That means senders, recipients, dates, subjects, message text, and the pictures in the messages.
- Your export options: for example PDF or Markdown, and the folder name.
It doesn’t read any other conversations, any other part of your Gmail account, or any other website.
Local processing and storage
Everything happens in Chrome on your own device. Your emails are held in memory only while an export is running, and they are never sent to Lieder Digital or to any other server.
The extension saves your export options with Chrome’s storage, so they’re remembered next time. If Chrome sync is turned on, Chrome syncs those options through your Google account, as it does for other extension settings. The options never include email content.
To make each file, the extension opens a hidden tab with Gmail’s print view of the conversation, saves it, and closes the tab. Opening that view loads the pictures in the email the same way Gmail does when you open the email yourself.
Downloaded files
The PDF and Markdown files are saved to your Downloads folder, or to a folder inside it that you choose. After that they’re ordinary files under your control. The extension doesn’t upload them, open them, or keep copies.
Permissions
- Access to mail.google.com: to see which conversations you checked and to open Gmail’s print view of them.
- Debugger: to save Gmail’s print view as a text-based PDF without opening the print dialog. It is used only on the hidden helper tab during an export. Chrome describes this permission with the warning “Read and change all your data on all websites,” but the extension never attaches to your other tabs or to other websites.
- Downloads: to save the files and show them in Finder or File Explorer.
- Storage: to remember your export options and show export progress.
- Offscreen: to turn the exported data into downloadable files and to convert email to Markdown.
- Scripting: to add the extension’s Gmail helper to a Gmail tab that was already open when the extension was installed or updated.
Sharing and limited use
Lieder Digital never receives your emails or your export options, so there is nothing for us to sell, share or use for advertising. The extension has no analytics, no tracking and no third-party code that sends data anywhere. Its use of your data follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Other services
Gmail and Chrome are Google services with their own privacy policies. The extension works through the Gmail account you’re already signed in to in Chrome.
Support messages
If you email us for support, we receive whatever you choose to send, such as your email address and a description of the problem. We use it only to answer you. This is separate from using the extension.
Changes
If a future version handles data differently, we’ll update this policy and the Chrome Web Store disclosures before releasing it.
